AB104 was included in the 2015-16 California budget bill and appropriated one-time funds for professional development and technical assistance within K-12 schools. K12HSN was selected to help organize this important work in a way that leverages existing resources and partners. The Technical Assistance and Professional Development (TAPD) program highlights the importance of IT support and network management for schools and districts.
Recognizing the need for adequate infrastructure to support computer-based assessments, the state legislature has allocated $26.7 million in 2014-15 and an additional $50 million in funding in 2015-16 to help schools with inadequate bandwidth upgrade their external connection to the Internet. K12HSN, in consultation with the California Department of Education and the State Board of Education, was selected to administer the Broadband Infrastructure Improvement Grants (BIIG).
